The construction of the Jiading-Songjiang Highway Bridge over the Huangpu River in suburban Songjiang District is slated to be launched in the fourth quarter of the year, according to a Jiefang Daily report yesterday.
After completion, it will be the 14th crossing – and the first suspension bridge – over the Huangpu. And it will be the only modern tower bridge with the patterns of a Chinese knot and window patterns of ancient buildings in the Southern Yangtze delta region, including the south of Jiangsu Province, Shanghai and Zhejiang Province.
Now the only suspension bridge in Shanghai is in Shanghai Auto Expo Park of Anting Town in Jiading District. The pedestrian-only bridge is 120 meters long and 8 meters wide.
With a total length of 1.825 kilometers, the Jiading-Songjiang Highway Bridge will connect Jinping Road in the north and Songjin Highway in the south in the center of Songjiang New Town.
The bridge will have six lanes both ways and lanes for pedestrians and non-automobile vehicles, the latter making it convenient for Songjiang residents to commute between the two banks of the Huangpu.
