Concert on the Green ready to play

The annual Concert on the Green series will be held at Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District on May 30-31, according to officials from Classical FM 94.7, the concert organizer.

The concerts, now in their ninth year, also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of renowned German composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Austria-educated young Chinese conductor Zhang Liang, violinist Wang Zhijiong and members of the Shanghai Philharmonic Chorus will present a special concert featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E flat major Op. 55, Fate Symphony and Pastoral Symphony on May 31.

Celebrated Chinese conductor Xu Zhong will perform with pianist Song Siheng and the Shanghai Opera House Symphony Orchestra at a concert on May 30.

The ensemble will play Yellow River Piano Concerto and Ode an die Freude from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor Op. 125.

Prior to each performance there will be two light-hearted musical performances by up-and-coming talented artists from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

The audience will be treated to both Chinese and Western pop songs. Interactive programs will also be organized to promote the charm of the concerts.
