The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden on Tuesday launched a program in which residents can exchange empty milk powder tins for entry tickets.
Originally set to conclude by the end of this month to meet the quota of 600 tins, the target was met only three hours after the exchange kicked off.
Three tins can be swapped for an adult’s ticket worth 60 yuan (US$8.7) while five could yield two tickets and eight tins could be exchanged for three tickets. But those giving 10 tins or more could get only four tickets at most.
The program was meant to promote the idea of recycling and environment protection. The collected tins will be turned into art pieces to decorate the garden’s water lily exhibition to be displayed next month.
