Songjiang tramlines T1 and T2 went through a test run on Thursday.
It was the first time for the tramline to operate in the urban area. The test run covered 11 stations and a total length of 7.33 kilometers.
The test run meant to see the the tramlines’ operation in real road traffic. Some of the road signals depend on manual control to give tramlines priority in passing through crossroads.
“Road condition can be complicated where the tramlines mix other traffic, which can be demanding for the tram drivers,” said Shen Jian, director of the tramline business department.
T2 will be tested alone for a 13-kilometer drive in May this year.
Parts of Songjiang tramlines will begin to operate by the end of November.
