Songjiang set to build its film industry into a new brand of the district

Songjiang is to boost its film industry as Shanghai has recently unveiled its plans for cultural innovation, which includes the construction of a large hi-tech film base in the district.

The district now boasts two city-level parks of culture industries, namely, Cangcheng Film and Culture Industrial Park and 30 Shanghai Culture Industrial Park, and three film shooting bases at Chedun, Image Maker and Yancang.

More than 5,000 film enterprises have launched their operations here, attracted by the district’s supporting services and special fund for culture industries.

For the first 11 months this year, the output value of the district’s film industry hit 25.66 billion yuan (US$3.92 billion), more than one third of the nation’s total in this field. Filmmaking is becoming a new brand for Songjiang.

“Under the city’s new cultural innovation policies, Songjiang is striving to turn ‘made in Songjiang’ into ‘created in Songjiang’,” said a staff member of the local administration of culture, radio, film and Television. “We will then focus on the integration of culture, history and technology in developing the district’s film industry.”
