Songjiang Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs was launched yesterday. It’s the first of such authorities established in suburban Shanghai.
The administration will serve for the district’s strategy to build the G60 Sci-tech Corridor and facilitate its programs of attracting foreign talents.
It will be in charge of affairs concerning work and residence permits for foreigners and people from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan regions. It will also take care of the management of household registration for professionals who have returned from overseas study and now work in Shanghai.
Currently the district gathers 2,300 foreign-invested companies, including more than 40 Fortune 500 companies and eight cross-border headquarters.
More than 22,000 foreign professionals now live in Songjiang. So, both they and their families need proper services in employment, education and medical care.
