Affordable housing projects get starter's green light

Three major affordable housing projects proposed for Songjiang recently passed technical approval stage and are set to start construction by end of this year.

The 420,000-square-meter complex located around Songjiang South Railway Station is backed by an investment of 3.13 billion yuan (US$479.6 million).

It is the first residential structure in Shanghai to adopt Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology.

BIM applies all relevant data to the project and provides a visual understanding for engineers. It facilitates proactive design, in terms of cost, work progress and risk management.

It is commonly used in large construction projects like opera houses and stadiums.

The complex is set to house 210,000 people upon completion in 2020.
