Work started last week to renovate Jiangchuan Village in Sijing Town and benefit more than 2,000 local homes. The renovation project covers about 150,000 square meters of old housing.
Songjiang has set a renovation target of 1.5 million square meters for 2017 in an effort to restore old houses to their original style, promote traditional architecture and protect heritages.
The project also involves infrastructure improvement works and the construction of the “sponge city” to store rainwater and prevent flash floods. Exposed power cables will go underground to guarantee safety.
