Thousands affected as Metro Line 9 stopped by power failure

A power breakdown on Metro Line 9 delayed trains running between Songjiang South Railway Station and Zhongchun Road Station during the morning rush hour last Friday, causing big congestions in affected stations.

Police helped people to evacuate from halted trains and tried to manage the crowds. After an hour, more than 3,000 commuters were guided to leave Metro stations.

The Songjiang Public Transport Co Ltd dispatched 153 buses to send 13,770 passengers to Metro stations not affected by the power outage. Companies in the vicinity were also asked to lend their coaches and vans to disperse the crowds.

Students of Shanghai University of Engineering Science acted as volunteers to guide stranded travelers to other means of transport.

Line 9 resumed operation around the noon when power supply was restored and stuck trains pulled away.
