Innovation competition draws over 400 student inventors

The 13th Songjiang Teenager Innovation Competition was held recently at the Foreign Language High School of Shanghai Normal University. About 400 students and teachers from 36 schools took part in the competition.

A total of 242 student inventions were on display, 20 percent more than in last year, said Zhu Zhengyu, an instructor of the Songjiang District Student Activity Center.

Chen Jieyi, a girl student who has won many awards in district and city innovation contests, showed a window that can prevent small kids from falling out and thwart burglar attempts. She said she designed this window after reading news about falling accidents.

Other interesting exhibits included an umbrella that glows and a bank card holder that reminds one to put it back after use.

A panel of 10 judges from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai Astronomical Observatory and other organizations selected inventions for awards.
